Entry-Level Structural Engineer
Job Category: Civil/Structural Engineering

Starting Annual Salary: $50,000-$60,000 plus bonuses

About the Position:
We are currently seeking applicants with a bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering and a Civil EIT certification (or upcoming completion of both in the near future). The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, creative problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and proficiency in interpersonal communication and collaboration.
This position will provide engaging and challenging assignments that develop the skills needed to build a successful career in the field of structural engineering. As an Oke Nichols engineer, you will work with industry-standard structural engineering design and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and ENERCALC. Oke Nichols Engineering team members are given their own projects and provided with opportunities to learn from and collaborate with colleagues daily, thus cultivating skillset growth and increased autonomy. Our work environment enables every team member to contribute, and the level of support provided is tailored to the needs of each individual.
The Oke Nichols Engineering team operates primarily out of our Raleigh office or in the field, but we also provide scheduling flexibility and opportunities to work from home.
Starting salary is commensurate with experience.
Job Responsibilities:
Learn/interpret current NC residential building codes
Draft to code in an AutoCAD software environment
Determine tributary areas of residential structures and perform load calculations on wood, steel, structural composite lumber, and concrete using ENERCALC
Perform inspections of existing structures, including, but not limited to, surveying crawlspaces and attics
Complete site inspections and compile reports based upon on-site observations for new and existing residential structures, footings, poured-in-place concrete walls, retaining walls, etc.
Work both independently and in collaborative efforts to meet established deadlines and accomplish weekly/monthly goals
Interact with and respond to clients in a professional and timely manner
Required Applicant Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering (graduation 2024 or earlier)
Successful completion of the following core courses in fulfillment of said degree: Solid
Mechanics, Statics, Reinforced Concrete Design, & Steel Design (Wood Design is a plus, but not required)
Civil Engineer in Training (EIT) certification (or proof of Civil FE Exam pass/scheduled exam)
Experience using AutoCAD design software
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, and cloud-based meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
Ability to perform inspections of existing structures, including crawlspace and attic areas which may be difficult to access and/or navigate
Reliable personal transportation and valid driver’s license
Ability to think analytically/creatively to apply lessons learned in school and on the job to future assignments
Desire to grow and willingness to be coached
Exceptional organization and attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a communal workspace environment
Foundational understanding of the importance of customer service and client relations
Ability to manage workload and complete projects in a timely manner
